The typical wilderness first aid courses available today do not adequately address the first aid needs of paddlers. This course will focus on the injuries most common to paddlers including, but not limited to, Shoulder Dislocation, Hypothermia, Ankle and Head Injuries. The paddler will also learn how to use the paddling gear that they have with them on the river too assist with any first aid issues. The course curriculum has been developed by Pauline Boyce, a fellow kayaker and MVP member. Pauline has developed an excellent course and is very excited about it. Pauline has been working in the emergency medical field for 10 years and is a Physician's Assistant, Paramedic, Physical Therapist, and has taught many first aid and CPR courses to EMS personnel. Pauline is ready to debut this course and would like to offer it in two parts. Part 1 will be a Red Cross Adult CPR course. This class is approx. 3 hours long and the cost will be $20. Part 2 will be the Paddler First Aid course. The PFA course is a full day and will cost $75. We are now reserving spaces for these two classes for the following weekend.
